The gold queen was just going to have to forgive them of their rudeness then wasn’t she? After all it was more important for the candidates to get themselves stationed around the clutch as soon as possible to prevent any mishaps and the loss of any dragonets to between. This was even more so now that this clutch had two eggs hatch early.
Arms crossed lightly over his chest and only moving occasionly to scratch at his unshaven chin, Gaius stood amongst the others as they watched and waited. Who would be the first to Impress? Would that garnet sucumb to his wounds and lash out at the candidates? Or would he be the first to Impress and gain the medical attention he clearly needed. Oh, but what was this now? Blue eyes darting to the left, Gaius eyed the bright blue egg as it finally cracked and split open, leaving its inhabitant to tumble out onto the sands. His eyes widened at the ear splitting screech that soon filled the air. And boy was that dragonet not too happy. Over what though, Gaius could only speculate.
Now it was while the boy-prince blue was screaming away that the imp egg had hatched. Gaius eyed the brown with an appreciative look as the small hatchling went about his business examining his wings, legs, body, before curling up next to his broken prison. What a clash of personalities already. Four hatchlings, now free of their eggs, wandered the sands. Who would make the move to Impress first? The injured garnet seemed the most likely as he had already taken the steps towards the candidates and seemed to be sizing them up. But if Gaius was a betting man, he would put his marks on the crying blue to run off and find his first.

Koroniket couldn't care much less about what the others were doing. Topaz? Girl. Garnet? Meh. Could be worse, but nothing to get excited about. He watched as the garnet prowled about through the candidates. He was all ready to ignore it, but a startled candidate leapt backward onto his foot, making him jump and spill some of his hot klah onto his chest. "Faranth, man! Watch what you're doing!" He glared, then composed himself. This was no way for these peoples' future leader to react. He patted him on the shoulder. "Sorry."
He plucked his robe away from his chest. Perhaps best to finish his klah up quick before anyone else decided to jump into his arms for safety, huh? He had just raised the mug to his lips when he saw the boy-king egg cracking. His egg. The egg that held his bronze. He smiled and then took a big swig. Now that his dragon was about to come to him, it was more important than ever to finish up his klah so he could be ready to receive him.
Only...that wasn't a bronze. It was a blue, and the sight of that had Ko choking on his klah, sending him into a massive coughing fit, the half-full mug of klah dropped to the sands as the candidate put his hands on his knees and tried to breathe.
Once he'd gotten his breath back - and wiped tears from his eyes - he looked up again. No, that was no trick of the light. His "bronze" was a blue. Shardit. Well...well that was fine. It was okay. His bronze was just somewhere else, or perhaps wasn't in this clutch. He scanned the other eggs, looking for another likely prospect.

If it hadn’t been for the lovely dream she had been having, Motoki might have woken up with a little more decorum than she had. But as it stands she woke up feeling like she was going to kill both of her firelizards for humming so sharding loud and vibrating her pillow. Thankfully for Korigain and Lunete she realized what was actually going on before she could reach up, grab the pillow, and use it to beat both of them into silence. WHY ON PERN DIDN’T YOU WAKE ME SOONER?! She was jumping out of bed, pulling on her candidate robe and sandals and was almost completely out the door before she had finished yelling at her firelizards.
Motoki knew that she probably looked like a mess, but at the moment she didn’t really care. The eggs were hatching and she was late for Faranth’s sake!! She hoped that everyone would forgive her, especially Majoriith and the eggs, well, only one way to find out right? I’m terribly sorry for being so late Majoriith!! She quickly greeted the golden mother before running around the other candidates to where the other girls were. She hoped that she wouldn’t be kicked out of the Hatching just because she hadn’t arrived at the same time as the other candidates. It wasn’t really her fault that she was such a heavy sleeper!!
Motoki could tell that something had gone on between the hatchlings and possibly the candidates but she wasn’t entirely sure what. There was a blue, a surprisingly tiny brown, a garnet, and a topaz so far, which made Mo amazed that someone hadn’t already impressed to one of the lovely babies. She looked around at the remaining eggs, wondering if any of the hatchlings had come from an egg that she had touched. From what she could see, the three eggs that she had touched were still there, so she hadn’t missed that bit of excitement. That bit of knowledge made the sixteen turn old smile with relief.
(((OOC: My other characters from Trelis are here as well, if you want to rp with any of them just let me know, best way to do that is pm.)))

Mleynn could barely keep up with everything that began happening. Four dragonets has hatched already, but before he could finish processing that, something terrible occurred! He dumbly reached for his ears, ducking clumsily as if he might hide from the noise. The sound echoed and vibrated and was the most heart-breaking noise the boy had ever heard!
But it soon stopped, and the commotion became a temper tandram if sorts. Both he and Emeliynn had been angelic children, so Mleynn only had seen other kids beg and shriek for things and go all ugly when they were denied. There wasn't a problem with that, really. But for a dragon to be running around? Was the blue hurt? Or maybe just pride-hurt...
He dropped his hands to his side, just now noticing how his sleeves covered his hands, like a large tunnelsnake had eaten half of them. Distracted, he shoves at the fabric, failing to keep the robe back from his hands. Oh shells! Was it bad his robe was all biggish?
Mleynn felt sweaty, but moreso when the Garnet pressed into the candidates. His large eyes were as big as eyes could really go, and he didn't know whether to run to hope for the best. Seeing as predators liked to chase prey, the latter was the best option...
He let his gaze turn away for one second, landing on the JESTER egg. May e that one would hatch next? He was curious what would come out... And hoped to know soon!
*(I want to offer Mleynn for interaction with the Garnet or any baby who attacks. I do not mind the damage as long as he doesn't bleed out or become mortally wounded, but I'd personally love a scar or two to remember this day. So, be aware LARKY)*

Kite rushed to put on his candidate robe and sandals. The eggs were hatching and he was late! Running at full speed, he sped across the Weyrbowl and onto the sands. His eyes widened when he arrived. Four dragons had already hatched and he had missed it!
He approached the golden queen as quickly as he could and gave a bow. Then he went over to the boys and stood silently. How could he be so late?! Will his lateness affect his chance at Impression? He would have to wait and see...
((Sorry if Kite was late! I was asleep IRL))

Malta stepped onto the Sands, feeling oddly numb. Where was her fear, her excitement? In her strange state of serenity, she dismissed those emotions as unnecessary; everything was going to go just as it should today. Taking her place with the other Candidates, their white robes almost glowing, she looked down at herself. She was naked. For a moment that bothered her -this was very against the rules- but no one seemed to notice. It wasn't a serious breach of etiquette, apparently, and no one was rushing to kick her from the Sands. And then a dragonet, weirdly fuzzy, was walking towards her and-
-and Shale dove right into her stomach, driving the breath clean out of her. Malta came awake both gasping for air and furious; only Shale's state saved him from her wrath. He was twittering frantically, diving and swooping in an erratic pattern that was utterly unlike her typically even-tempered firelizard. It was obvious he'd been trying to wake her for some time, but she'd been heavily in the grip of her dream, driving him to further panic. "I'm awake, I'm awake," she reassured him, her voice blurred with sleep. He shrieked once more, and dove to perch on her shoulder.
And then he began to hum.
Firelizards didn't make that sound without reason, and she highly doubted there was any 'lizard eggs hatching and causing him to lose his mind. No, there was only one answer: Majoriith's Clutch. Convulsively, Malta's hands fisted, and it took an effort for her to ride through the emotional wave of joy and terror mingled so thoroughly she couldn't tell where one stopped and the other began. Oh, Faranth, here it was. The whole course of her life might change today...or she might walk off those Sands precisely as she was now.
Frankly, she couldn't say which scared her more.
Her robes were always hanging neatly, and she slipped into their coarse fabric, despairing for an instant at how they hung on her. She'd managed to get a smaller set than the one she'd had before, but apparently, most Candidates were dramatically bigger than she was. What sort of impression would she make looking like she was wearing someone's bedding? Perhaps, if she was lucky, it would be a windy day, and the excess fabric would catch the wind and sweep her out of here altogether. Running nervous fingers through her short hair, she snatched up the smallest bag she owned, stocked for general emergencies. There were likely to be wounds, and she wouldn't be useless simply because she was Standing.
Shale clung to her as she walked to the Sands, more nervous than she'd ever seen him, his eyes spinning a dizzy maelstrom of colors. She supposed he might be picking up on her own emotional turmoil. Deliberately, she slowed her pace. Better to be late than to walk out there and batter the hatchlings with her own problems. They would be hungry, and possibly overwhelmed by everything as it is. In the end, she stood quietly at the entrance to the Sands until she had control over herself, listening to the cheers. There was no wild burst of noise to signal any Impressions, or so she guessed; she was not too late, then.
Sending Shale up to wing joyful circles with the rest of the Weyr's firelizards, she walked onto the Sands, sinking blissfully into the heat. She had mastered herself, and she was calm, almost serenely so. What happened, happened. She had a back-up plan, and nothing was going to take her future as a dragonhealer from her, even if riding was not in her cards. Well, she thought wryly, not unless a dragonet took her hand off. She paused to bow to Majoriith, rather more quickly than she would have if she hadn't been late, but she supposed the Clutchmother felt it was more important for her progeny to Impress than to be endlessly bowed at. Words failed Malta, but she hoped Majoriith would understand that, as well.
As she took her place with the girls, she felt a wave of deja vu. So like her dream, but so different. These dragonets were not blurry in the slightest, and her eyes skimmed across the Sands, tallying them up. A Topaz, reigning calmly from the middle of the action. A Garnet, methodically terrifying the boys. A Blue, shrieking his displeasure about something; her lips pulled up in an unconscious expression of distaste at that. Finally, a Brown, rather small, sitting to one side. She recognized him as being from the Imp, which she'd Touched. Malta smiled slightly at him, wishing him luck. The rest she'd had no contact with, though she'd been tempted by both the Rider and the Priestess Eggs. She guessed those were the Garnet and the Topaz, and it was easy enough to place the Topaz as being from the fire-shelled Priestess.
Her eyes wandered the remaining Eggs, keeping particular attention on her favorites. Who would Impress first? She knew it had long been considered good luck for a Bronze to Hatch first; that hadn't happened, but there was no way for her to know which of these had broken shell initially. Any but the Blue, she reflected wryly, and she'd take it as excellent luck.

If only your brother knew who you’d been sleeping with, Bahari, he might not be so okay with it. But alas, overprotective brother was not in the blonde’s job description, oh no. He’d leave the protectiveness to his mother and his uncle – they were worse than a pair of gold dragons with a newly hatched clutch. Joskull would remain blissfully unaware – only pleased that his younger brother had made it to the Hatching before anything too interesting had actually occurred. When the brunet finally did appear, he was awarded a small nod.
“Looks like,” the glass-smith agreed, arms folded over his chest as he watched the eggs. Sparing them a moment, he glanced over at Bahari and could not help his small frown. Oh, Baha, you looked so mussed. Having never slept with anyone…shards, Joskull had never kissed anyone, he could hardly understand why the starsmith would think such activities were worth wasting an entire night’s sleep. Oh, sure, he knew what sex was; his parents were in love and they weren’t that discrete about what they did. And, of course, their uncle Fakhri would never spare them such knowledge, oh no. Joskull wasn’t stupid, he just didn’t see the point. What did such relationships gain you, beyond a fleeting moment of pleasure and a sleepless night? If they weren’t family, you didn’t trust them.
And that was that.
Snorting softly, he shook his head. “When I saw your bed empty, I rather doubted you would make it out here at all.” Sorry, Bahari, your brother doubted your priorities sometimes. “You’re lucky I didn’t send Strun to fetch you.” Strun probably would fetch him, too, just so he had the opportunity to disturb someone. When the screeching starting, the blonde winced and glanced back out towards the group of dragons – four now!? Shells, they really were an impatient lot, weren’t they?
It was then he realized the garnet was no longer with his siblings, but had started milling through the male candidates. Almost immediately, his heart began to pound and he swallowed hard – Impressing a garnet firelizard was hard – could you even imagine bonding to something that big? And angry? Almost impulsively, he stepped in front of his brother and glanced over his shoulder. “I know you’re tired, but try to stay alert, won’t you?”

Well, he was late. He had been awake, working on his craft, but by the time he had raced back to the candidate barracks, shed his working clothes, thrown on the ill-fitting Candidate's robe, and raced to the sands... he was late. There were already four hatchlings on the grounds-- a blue, a brown, and two garnets, by the looks of things. Nothing he was particularly interested in.
He gave the golden Queen a short bow and then joined the half-circle of other young men hoping to Impress to a dragon. One of the garnets was heading toward the candidates, and Lucian shuddered. Something that vicious and angry would not suit his personality at all. If he Impressed to a bloodthirsty garnet... he didn't know what he would do. Maybe kill himself?

Oh, oh right. Bowing to the queen. Bahari had let that slip mainly because, well he had been rushing, and he had been a touch late in comparison to plenty of the people here. Granted even if he had remembered he might've thought twice about getting near that little garnet babe and his mother just because, well shards, you were taught that you should stay out of a dragon's way, lest you fancied becoming a shredded hunk of flesh. The starcrafter rolled his eyes a bit, stretching when his brother finally seemed to accept the fact that he was here and well--aside from a blooming mark on his neck that he had (of course) blocked with the thick mass of his hair. Just nevermind the way those lips of his were a bit worn and reddish, okay brother?
His vision was still set out on the sands when his brother spoke to him, but Bahari swayed slightly towards Joskull to speak in return to the blonde. "Don't mistake my absence for an absence of caring, Jos." Sure, his bed had been empty, but Bahari was committed enough to this candidate thing to see it through. "Wait, so does that mean Strun is off his leash now?" Ah, speaking of garnets wandering afoot with possible violent intentions, it seemed like the dragonet was making it's way towards the candidates. Baha's eyes flickered briefly to Kariss, who seemed intent on stepping forwards towards the thing.
In the moment that there was shrieking, Bahari turned his vision back to the on-goings on the sands, and oh he couldn't help but bite back a smile at that. There was a very, ah, purple looking blue that was looking every inch a spoiled weyrbrat and huffing around--and shards what was that? One of the eggs he touched had broken apart quite stealthily and shards and shells that was a brown, right? A small brown. Interesting. Bahari leaned again towards his brother, forwards this time, since it seemed that Joskull was taking the protective older brother route, although he didn't bother to look to him when he spoke up again, oh no, his eyes were set firmly past his sibling and onto the writhing young dragons on the sands. "Mnn, alert? Just heed your own advice. I would hope you stop watching me and pay attention to the dragons, brother."

Jisene looked up from where she'd been doing some predawn whittling, eyes wide in shock. The eggs were Hatching?! Jumping to her feet, she dragged off her clothes and pulled on the Candidate robes she'd been given on arrival at the Weyr.
Once she had them on, she raised through the corridors to the Hatching Sands, skidding to a halt in wide-eyed shock. The Priestess had Hatched....?! Of all the eggs to Hatch first, Jisene hadn't expected her to be among them, even if she was the only one she'd had the chance to Touch.
The reverence that she had felt before returned full force, and she stood there, staring at the beautiful Topaz queen. Her eyes were wide with wonder, her short blonde hair-cut short after the fire at Apollis Hold-bounced around her ears as she took her place.
She dragged in a breathe of air, letting it rattle out once more. "So beautiful..." She whispered. "I've never seen anything like her..."
So great was her fascination, she never even noticed the other dragonets that had so far hatched. No, her eyes were all for the Sub-Queen, and no other.

Everyone was snickering. They were all mocking! He just knew it, he just knew that they were. How could they? How dare they?!? Straightening up and puffing out his chest, The Boy-King blue turned red eyes toward the candidates as they stared back. Were they waiting on something to happen? Yes, of course they were, how could the blue be so silly? This was his day after all. They were waiting for their King. Oh, they were waiting for something alright brother, but it was definitely not you. Flicking his tail, The Imp brown rolled onto his side lazily, watching the blue dragonet stamp around unhappily. He would impress, yes, if he could impress then he could explain to his rider that there was a mistake and that he was a bronze and not a blue! Looking one way to another, the blue took a step forward.....and put that foot back onto the sand thankyouverymuch. Snorting, The Rider chuckled darkly as he gave the petty blue a stern look. Right, stay there boy, let the real Kings step forward and prove themselves worthy. Turning his red head over his shoulder to check on The Priestess following him, the garnet shuffled his wings against his back making a low rustling sound before looking again at the candidates. No, not that one. No, this one was too weak as well. They all were too weak, they stank of fear. Too easy, all of these would be too easy, and none of them saw him for what he was. They knew garnets from the gossip they were told by passing friends and drudges. Did no one really understand the true potential that lay underneath all of that aggression? Did no one see how that aggression could be a good thing instead of bad? Sniffling along the candidates, he paused and stood. His confidence would not slip, he refused to let it. Barking softly at The Rider, The Priestess padded up alongside her brother, nudging him softly. Now, now brother. Be good and don't get too angry and upset. Go and look again, and when you do find yours, try and not kill him. That would be quite bad for a first impression. Hissing back at his sibling, the garnet flared his wings while baring his fangs. What did she know of making a good impression? She tried, she succeeded in some ways perhaps, but she held her desires for violence instead of use them as he did for his benefit. Snorting, The Priestess tossed her head and simply nodded toward the candidates again. Fine! Snapping his jaws together firmly, the garnet forced himself to not injure his sibling, instead turning around and looking one more time at the other humans he had yet to go through. I see you are the stronger of your siblings, ready to guard those that follow you. This is something I approve of my rider.Gruffly stating his thoughts, the garnet slid himself around the candidate he had chosen. His eyes had yet to entirely turn to rainbows, he had to make sure first.....yes, yes, this was the one. With surprising speed for a dragonet so young and clumsy, the male snaked his head back before striking quickly and latching on to the candidate's arm. His hold was firm but gentle enough to not do any real damage, his fangs just barely grazing the flesh so that blood could be tasted in his mouth. I suggest you do not move that arm until I let go of it Josckull, if you want to keep it...it would be a pity to loose such a valuable item though. Your Ackosyth does not take you for someone who is stupid, do not prove me wrong. As if to make his point, the garnet's jaws closed just that much tighter around his prize, eyes finally bursting into brilliant rainbows as a trickle of blood ran down Joskull's fingers. DROGO GARNET MALE-JOSKULL "Ace" Name: Ackosyth Based on: Khal Drogo Color: Male Garnet Hex Codes: de351c, 960000, db7134, ca0101, ae4c3dSize: 41 feet Personality: The one thing that Ackosyth will make known, is he is not like any other of his color. It is not that he abhors violence, because in truth he loves it. It is not that he fears what he is, because more than that he is proud of it. Ackosyth has particular sort of pride though, one that is managed well with his color's tendencies to create more than just a blood-thirsty machine. No, Ackosyth thinks, he considers, and then he acts. That is not to say that he will always think before acting, he is definitely prone to doing things on a whim, but he is much more capable of being a leader than most Garnets would. He is quite simplistic in what he needs though; blood, lust and a good fight being at the top of that order. Like his rider he does like shiny and valuable things, but none so much than what he has won rather than just receive. Often the arguments of others amuses Ackosyth as well, and he can be heavy-handed when leading others, though he is not a tyrant by any means. When he does something, even if in blood-lust though, there is no remorse. It was what it was, nothing more and nothing less. What is strange perhaps about this dragon is that he is almost gentle and loving toward those he considers family...but you definitely don't want to be someone he calls and enemy. Nearby, The Boy-King blue whined a snarl as he watched that savage creature advance on the candidates and choose one. Let him have that human! It was not as if the blue had wanted him anyway! Shrieking defiance as The Imp just laughed and shook his head, the blue stepped closer to the candidates himself, eyes watching The Priestess as she observed her clutchmate impress. Her gaze was mostly on the candidates though, observing their reactions to the display as much as the actual event itself. Tch, did she even understand what she was ignoring? The Boy-King blue strutted over to the Sub-Queen dragonet, warbling a greeting. Giving the male only a side-ways glance however, the dragonet flicked her tail dismissively as she continued to watch the candidates' reactions to the first impression. That really wasn't the smartest thing to do. A high-pitched, angered squeal ripped from the blue's throat as he lunged for the larger female. He could feel her hide in his jaws...he could just taste the victory of making her pay...he... Had entirely missed his target. Blinking up at the female confused as he lay sprawled on the ground, The Boy-King gawked while The Priestess sighed and shook her head. Silly creature, she was protected by the greater plan they were all a part of. Could he not see that? It was only natural that she knew when exactly to step aside. Padding away with a casual swish of her tail, The Priestess ignored the blue and watched the candidates again. So many of them wanted her. It was obvious that she had to choose someone, and she knew she had to choose someone soon. Who could handle that sort of knowledge though? She had much to teach them, much to pass on and do. Was there anyone here that could handle that task? Perhaps. Coyly, The Priestess shook her head as one of the male candidates walked closer. No, she did not one of your kind. Men could be useful, but they could also be easily swayed. All of them thought themselves Kings in their own right. She needed a female, she needed a woman...one that could dare to see things for what they truly were, one that had known the world in ways others had not. Pausing for a moment, The Priestess nodded and then slithered over to her chosen candidate. She needed a closer look; just like her brother before her had needed with his rider, she needed to make certain this one was for her as well. For a moment she just stood there in front of the young woman, and then finally she dipped her head and furled her wings in against her side. We have much to do Kariss, you and I will change the world. You must understand my rider that things are not as they always seem though.Imperfect memories ran through the candidate's mind as the two merged mentally, the dragonet sharing the past few events that had happened before the candidates were called. After a moment she paused before mimicking the strike that Ackosyth had put into place against his own rider. A bond through blood, yes, the Sub-Queen could understand the need for that. Jaws latched around Kariss' arm gently, she waited a moment before letting go and licking the blood from her jaws. It was only then with her eyes a myriad of rainbows that she flared her wings and gave a high-pitched wail, a battle call as her voice echoed throughout the minds of the Weyr. I, Nalsulath, have come to answer you my Red Brothers. I am yours to follow, and you will follow me in return! Calm now, for we shall prevail through the terrors around us.And the Garnets began to sing, their Queen had come. MELISANDRE GARNET FEMALE-KARISS "Taylor" Name: Nalsulalth Based on: The Red Priestess Color: Female Garnet Hex Codes: 921d06, e9331a, bd1818, e83834, 852015, db0a0aSize: 34 feet Personality: Nalsulath is what all the Garnets have been waiting for, the first of the very rare, almost more so than Gold Queens, females of the red dragons, whers and firelizards. Or, that is what she will have you believe. Truth be told there have been a very few number of firelizards, though those were thought to be just oddities, not an actual case of the color’s tendencies. Finally at last though, all the questions become answered. Nalsulath will tell anyone who asks that she is not a blood-thirsty monster. The monsters are out there among you in the shadows! No, her brethren were simply unstable without the calming presence of a female of their color. It is why they do not listen as well to Golds, and in many ways Nalsulath will function as a Sub-Queen. However, even though she knows this, it is only her garnet brothers and her other new color followers that she cares to try and lead. They are the ones that will survive, that were chosen to prevail over others, and she will lead them into greatness! She can be incredibly manipulative, having the same sort of dark mind that her kind is known for, and despite how she refuses to say it out loud, she is also one to fall victim to blood lust. However, the more aggressive tendencies have become more fine-tuned, more reasonable and controllable within her. She can be sensual, unforgettable, and she enjoys the compulsion that she has, the reason that the garnets will wish to follow her. It is uniquely, as is with all females of her color, tuned to the other garnets, capable of sensing and understanding them on a level that other creatures usually cannot. The Garnet males are her Knights, and it is rare for another color to become one as well, though it is not impossible. All may call themselves worthy in time. She is quietly vain as well, loving attention that comes from the males she leads and that is envied by the females that look on. In the end though, Nalsulath is dead set on believing that she is special for more than just her color or gender. She is one that has been chosen to lead, and she will twist words around that others say in order to make this seem true.

Motoki had been pretty much ignoring the hatchlings and all that they were doing, she was more interested in keeping an eye on the eggs that she had touched; hoping that maybe one of them might be hers. That is, until she heard a high-pitched wail that made her jump. Her light brown eyes grew wide at what she saw. So two garnets had impressed and had done exactly what she had been told that they would do, bloody up their riders. She gasped, hoping that the two newly impressed weyrlings were alright and that the two hatchlings hadn’t done too much damage with their sharp teeth.
Motoki took a few ragged breaths before finally letting herself relax a little. She swallowed the lump that was in her throat and turned her attention back to the unhatched eggs, trying to keep herself from getting too worked up. What would her potential hatchling think of her if she got worked up at the very beginning of the impressions? She closed her eyes, breathed deeply, and let herself relax. Today was the day that some lucky candidates would meet their other half…and in some cases, their better half. That thought made a smile cross Mo’s lips, maybe she would be lucky enough to find her better half today.

There was a lot of things Joskull expected. A lot. He expected to Impress. Shards, he was full of himself, he thought he stood a pretty good chance at Impressing something metallic. Fuck, he even half-expected his brother to Impress without him, or maybe vice-versa. (The universe was a bitch like that.) What Joskull didn't expect? He didn't expect to actually Impress the garnet dragon. Oh no.
As the youngling approached, he half-expected to have to defend his brother. There wasn't a doubt in his mind as he bristled, subconsciously puffing himself up as the creature slithered close. There was a voice in his mind, but his eyes, his eyes weren't-
Joskull tensed up, fighting against the automatic reaction as sharp teeth sunk into his arm. The blond tensed, trying to curl his fingers as he tried not to move. The garnet sunk down harder and then, and then, those eyes. The glass-smith sucked in a breath, completely unaware his arm had been let free, or that his arm was a bloody mess.
"Ackosyth." He tried the name out, brushing his fingertips against the dragon's head. His dragon. That was his dragon. His dragon wasn't anything like his parents' bondeds; oh no, no, this was his.
Well, now that we have that established, Ackosyth rumbled, watching his rider carefully. He was hungry. Nipping at the blond's hip, he started trying to herd the youth away from the others. Everything could wait. He was hungry.
Joskull stalled, though, reaching out to grab his brother's wrist. "Be careful," he insisted, ignoring Ackosyth as he nipped again, firmer this time. Fuck, he had a killer garnet flit. He could handle a few bites. "Don't make me and Ackosyth come out here to rescue you, you hear? And don't you get that pretty face fucked up, Bahari. I'm serious."
With that, he gave his brother a final pat and swatted at his garnet's head. "You stop that. We're going, we're going." Honestly, no need to bite.
That is your brother? Ackosyth thought there was every need, thank you.
"Yes." The blond nodded. Well, he certainly hadn't Impressed an idiot. Looks and brains? Now they were talking. "He is my brother. Come on, let's feed you."

Kariss watched the garnet latch onto Joskull, making a mental note to catch up with the pair shortly. She'd want to look in on the garnet, even though the rational side of her knew that there were plenty of dragon healers waiting at the feeding station who would be quite able to determine whether or not the young dragon needed attention.
Her attention, however, was pulled away by the sub-queen, who had come right up to her while Kariss was looking at her brother. As Nalsulath's voice sounded in her mind, Kariss' first thought was not of Impression. Instead, she was pleased because this meant she had a chance to scold the topaz for attacking her brother. "There you are! I was hoping I'd get a chance to say-" She stopped as memories flooded her mind. And not her memories. She blinked, stunned, and it started to process what was happening. This topaz - no, she wasn't a topaz, that was obvious now - was choosing her? Choosing Kariss?
Sharp pain snapped her out of the baffled shock, and she let out a little yelp, swatting at the female garnet as she might an uppity colt. "Stop that!"
Nalsulath, once she'd spoken to her garnet peers, turned an irritated look on her new rider. That was an infantile reaction, KarissMine. Are you trying to make me regret my choice so quickly? Perhaps I should choose your daughter instead...?
Kariss gave her an irritated look, though this time kept her hands to herself - something told her she might lose a finger or two if she hit the dragon again, or at least a bit more blood. "Oh you think you're so clever, don't you, little queen? No, you wouldn't even know what to do with Rineska. Let's get you fed."
Nalsulath just shot Hers another warning look, then glanced over at Rineska, who was staring with silent, rapt attention, and then led the way to the feed station, head high.
Kariss looked down at the crimson sleeve of her once white robe with a frown. She hoped whatever cat her dragon had eaten was clean. Wait...no, not a cat. Right. She shook her head and trotted after Nalsulath to the feeding station, planning on having a quick conversation with Joskull once she'd gotten a bit of meat in her dragon. There was definitely something weird going on, if Nalsulath's memories were correct.
They are. The garnet gave Hers an impatient look, and Kariss sped up to feed her sooner.

Koroniket watched as the two garnets chose their riders - why did the word "prizes" come to mind first, as if the garnets were securing prey? - and breathed a sigh of relief. To be honest, he'd worried he might end up with a garnet, once he saw that his "bronze" was, in fact, not a bronze. But no, those two sub-kings (or whatever - he could have sworn one of those was female) were out of the way, and it was just a matter of waiting for his dragon.
He watched the two unfortunate souls troop off to the feed station with their bloody arms and blood-colored dragons, then turned his attention back to the eggs, assessing them and the two dragons which stood on the sands. The blue was definitely not his. He could just go ahead and forget about that whelp right now. The brown...? Well, in a pinch, a brown would do. He could see the sub-king trying to claim Koroniket for his own, and he hoped a proper king hatched in time to prevent the theft. But he was so small. Koroniket was tempted to consider him something else, some new mutant color which simply looked brown. Definitely not a proper lifemate for him, either way.
So he guessed he would be waiting some more. He looked down at his sandy mug, the remains of his klah just a sludgy puddle inside of it, and sighed deeply. He should have grabbed some breakfast when he was in the kitchen, come to think of it. Now he was hungry, wet, and not too satisfied in the drink-department. He found himself scowling at the eggs for a few seconds before he could stop himself. Sharding babies better hurry up with this nonsense.
