ZEKE
Name: Zeke
Pronunciation: Zee - ck
Age: 24
Season Born In: Autumn
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Appearance:
A good way to begin describing Zeke is “average”, and he likes this descrption also. Average height he stands just under the six foot mark at 5'11”, but with a tall, confident posture that somehow makes him larger until he's standing directly infront of a taller person. In build, he's not overly broad or muscular, but his lack of being tall steers him away from being lanky. Instead, he's simply athletic looking, entirely working muscles with calouses on his hands from every day chores that have strengthened him over turns and turns. Thin without being skinny, Zeke is healthy in both weight and build, further adding to the 'average' description as much as the tanned skin coloured a very light brown with exposure to the sun does. Despite his personality being rather complicated, Zeke's appearance is really nothing out of the ordinary for a man. Even his colouring doesn't really deviate from the usual Pern colouring.
His hair is a light shade of brown that still can't be called blonde, no matter how much the sun tries to bleach it, and when long, has a tendency to fluff out from his head. As it is, Zeke keeps his hair short to avoid said 'fluffing', leaving it just long enough to run his hands through. This cut somehow adds to the 'devil-may-care' attitude he seems to give off with a crooked grin and attractive, but not overly handsome features. His eyes are coloured a dark, melted chocolate brown that seem to darken when he gets angry - though this is rare enough. His jaw is shadowed with a hint of stubble, as though Zeke can rarely be bothered shaving it off (in this case, it's the truth).
Personality:
One of the first things that is noticed about Zeke, is his strength emotionally and mentally. To call him 'strong-willed'; however, would be a misnomer. Rather, his general mind frame can be described as 'tough'. Rather than withstanding a constant barrage of abuse mentally, or holding up under extreme pressures, Zeke has a mind that rather excells in withdraw, regroup, battle again. In an argument, he might seem to be a little slow to respond, or come across as uncaring as he pulls back from the abuse, collects his thoughts again – which are rather easily scattered when it comes to women – before he wades into battle again. He may appear to give up a fight rather easily, backing down with his 'devil-may-care' grin, but be wary of the white flag. That victory could come back and quite effectively bite you in the backside weeks, months even years later. The best thing to do when it comes to Zeke – if one is trying to win and argument – is simply not allowing him time to regroup. If he manages to get his thoughts back in order, fixed and settled, his ammo is generally doubled and winning becomes a game of wits rather than whatever the argument may have been about in the first place. The moral to this story: Kick him while he's down or there's no hope. Strangely however, Zeke isn't stubborn. Generally if another person is that passionate about something, he is more likely to back down and leave the argument alone than he is to pursue it. Let them believe what they will, think what they will, especially if it isn't harming him in anyway. An argument on morals, beliefs or anything subjective is usually a useless venture with Zeke, as he'll often shrug and comment “as you wish”. Before letting the manner drop. Never go looking for an argument with Zeke, as he simply can not bring himself to engage in an argument that at the end of the day, means nothing.
Zeke is also rather slow to anger, it takes months of little annoyances to get him to snap at anything, while most temper flares from others are met with nothing more than amusement. As he would say, he doesn't get into arguments, just heated discussions. Slow to anger, and quick to cool off, like any good country boy, once he's hit a fellow the next week they'll be the best of friends. Women, unfortunately, tend to have to deal with the cold shoulder as no true gentleman would hit a woman in his mind. One of the best ways to describe Zeke is 'energy-conserving', he doesn't really do anything that he sees as pointless or a waste of time or energy when those resources could be put to better use (It would be preferable if you didn't ask what those uses were). He doesn't move swiftly, he never runs and takes things as the come or go, dealing with it in a calm kind of steadiness that gives him a sense of tranquility. Perhaps its the isolated, 'farm-boy' upbringing, or maybe its just a part of who he is. This tranquility; however, doesn't extend to laziness. He's happy to move and do chores, play games and generally make a noise. He'll get his work done on time, and tries his best with everything – as long as it's not written. Zeke has rather extreme problems with reading and writing, a condition that on Earth would be dyslexia. He's not stupid, but loathes written works with the passion that comes from misunderstanding and will shun all written work if possible.
Zeke is affectionate and rather openly friendly. He's more than happy to show affection to those he cares about in the mass. He's unashamed to tell someone what he thinks or feels about them, even when it leads to minor misunderstandings and is more than happy to tell a girl he thinks she's beautiful – ten times a day if need be. Sounds almost perfect, right? Hold your chastity belts ladies, there's a catch. Zeke is a little bit of a hopeless romantic, hopeless in the manner that he just can't give up on love, and he can't seem to quite get his hands on it either. Or rather, he catches it, and somehow it slips through his desperately clasping fingers like water. Hopeless too, in the manner that he just doesn't know what he's doing wrong. Soft hearted at the best of times, Zeke has a tendency to wear his heart on his sleeve for all to see, and rushes into relationships with the best of intentions. His soft-hearted nature becomes a hitch here, for he gets serious about women rather quickly, and when that happens, he gets possessive. Two dates, three dates or a year, it doesn't matter to Zeke, as far as he's concerned, he's constantly in a state of love and wants nothing more than to be with that person. He's convinced every one is the right 'one', only to be left heartbroken and deserted when the protective-possessiveness overwhelms the ideal budding relationship and the lady in question takes off.
That depression never really lasts long though, and Zeke picks himself up and throws himself at the next challenge with all his effort behind it. Eager to please, Zeke adores a challenge and loves nothing more than to be given a 'quest' by a lady-friend so he may prove his devotion. No one's asked him to get a pearl from the bottom of the ocean yet, but he's still young and time still ticks on. Zeke has a rather easy-going, happy, 'devil-may-care' general attitude, always smiling, always laughing and ready for the next joke. He finds it easy to laugh at himself – and equally easy to laugh at others. He's a good guy, with just a few short falls that make him a little exasperating.

History:
Zeke was born in one of those small little cot-holds out in the middle of nowhere, where everything is grown and provided by the sweat of the brow and strength of the back. It was a life in which he was taught not to complain, and to simply to do his best. Born the middle child, Zeke was bullied and the bully in turn to his older brother and younger sister respectively. He grew up in a close knit family, no matter how vague the connection was between the blood and grew up close with cousins and second cousins as friends. There was no tie closer than that between the five that were his blood-family however, and Zeke still adored his older brother even when he was suffering from extra chores when he lost a bet, or fancied a girl his brother was after. Fights were frequent between the two, and the only time they paired up was to annoy their little sister. They were the only ones allowed to do so however, anyone else messing with the girl would be chased down and pummeled.
Zeke was only eight or nine when a dry spell hit their lands and the lands around his home, and is probably one of the few who can claim he lost very little. None of his family died in that hard period of time, but Zeke's favorite canine was lost to the ravenous wild whers that stalked the night, along with plenty of livestock and food that would be difficult to replace. Still, his family was alright, and that was all that mattered. Unlike some boys, Zeke never dreamed of being a rider - it sounded not all that great to him, after all living to die? - he only wanted to grow up, marry a pretty girl that he wasn't related to, and continue the life that his father had and his father before him. He had no craft, but rather learned the practical lessons that all people living off the land learned. He learned how to fix his own shirts, to fix a harness, mend a wheel on a wagon and treat a bite or wound. Practical lessons for a practical fellow.
Living as far out as they did, Zeke heard little of the mutation dragons, and those rumors he heard were obviously blown so far out of proportion that they no longer even held a glimmer of truth. Two queen colors clutching after chewing firestone, and one that impressed to boys? Dragons as large or larger than the others, colored brilliant colors? It was all far too wonderful to be real, obviously the rumors that had come from The Island had grown as they crossed the ocean, and now they were simply silly.
It was pure chance that had him Searched, as his family rarely went into the Holds for the occasional supply that was a luxury and not a necessity, and for once, Zeke went along with his brother and father. The Ebony on Search there gave the boy a long, searching look before apparently saying something to his rider, who posed the question to Zeke. Consideration was put into the request, before the lad shrugged and agreed, wanting to see more of these colors and if the rumors were really true. Not to mention there were all those rumors all over Pern about rebellions and wars...it was all very confusing and exciting all at once.
