Pern is a planet found in Anne Mcaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern book series. The genre is classified as science fiction, spanning over many individual works and trilogies. When the original author passed away, her son Todd took up the series to write new books. These newer novels have been controversial in the Pern fandom however, so here at Trelis we tend to stay somewhere between the two canons.
Often the society on Pern is classified as Pre-industrial. This means that there are Lords, Ladies, Holds and Villages, and other such things. The way Pern thinks is different than our modern day era as well. Girls for instance are generally wed in their teens unless sent to pursue a craft or stand for a dragon. There are still some who hold more sexist ideals, though not naturally this does not hold true for everyone. Weyrwomen and their Queens are at the top of the dynamics in a Weyr where dragons reign, but there is still tension between themselves and their, generally, male counterparts the Weyrleaders. This is mainly due to traditional ideals left from before Lessa's time.
In Trelis we do believe that Lessa existed and that AIVAS was found. We follow that AIVAS helped the riders to throw the Red Star off its orbit. The only reason Thread still falls is because of a meteor shower crashing into it and knocking it back into orbit. Entirely plausible, maybe, but it works well enough to explain that for whatever reason, Thread is back here. The most intresting of things about the book series are the dragons. It's why most people read them, and the bond they share with their riders predates other similar series that are popular today.
