L'gree
Name: L'gree
Pronunciation: Leh - gree
Age: 24
Season Born In: Early winter
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Um.
Appearance:
L'gree looks far more serious than an amethyst rider has any right to be. His default expression is practically a glower, and his smile is rarer than a friendly tendril of Thread. His eyes are a stormy green with hints of brown in them. His hair, too, is dark - a near-black brown with touches of auburn. Fairly tall at six feet, L'gree's frame is all lean muscle, courtesy of his life as a dragonrider.
Personality:
L'gree is grim and serious. Life is no walk in the park, and anyone who thinks it is will find themselves crushed by tragedy soon enough. L'gree has braced himself against further pain by refusing to engage with the world around him, for the most part. He doesn't make friends, doesn't have lovers, doesn't really bond with anyone other than Plaeth. Even she had to work hard to be loved, because he didn't want to see her as anything but a tool to use for Pern's sake.
L'gree has been competitive since he was young, and that hasn't changed over the Turns. He likes to win, and doing well at something is one of the few things that might make him smile. This is particularly apparent when he Searches. He keeps track of the ratio of his Candidates who Impress, and you're likely to be quizzed and tested a great deal before he'll bring you to Stand, lest you bring his win ratio down.
L'gree may seem heartless but he isn't, really. He's just cautious, and occasionally resentful. Why should you be so happy when he's lost so many people he loved? Those who have lost a great deal as well - Dragonless, or orphans, for example - tend to tug at his heartstrings, and he'll be more willing to talk to them than most. They understand, after all. More so than most, at least.
Family:
Leniha - mother, seamstress - deceased
Greeling - father, healer - deceased
Greelen - brother, 7 turns older, ex-bluerider, Dragonless
Location: Trelis
Rank: Searchrider
Wing/Pack: Queen's wing
History:
L'gree - formerly Leningree - was raised in a weyrhold, when Thread was said to be gone forever and life was peaceful. He idolized his older brother and tagged along after him wherever he went and whatever he did, often to the older boy's annoyance. Their relationship deepened, though, and when Greelen was Searched and went off to seek a dragon, Leningree missed him terribly. Greelen didn't Impress that first time, returning to his family and his excited younger brother. Each time there was a clutch nearby, however, Greelen would go to Stand again. When he was 20 turns old, he Impressed a blue dragon: Shevraeth.
In those turns, it wasn't an issue for him to return to his family once he'd been trained, and so he did so quite happily. Leningree loved having a dragon around and started to fall in love with the species, declaring that he would get one of his own soon. Shevraeth seemed to agree, Searching the boy repeatedly, though of course he then brought him to official searchdragons at the weyrs where he brought Leningree to Stand.
For Leningree, it was all a big adventure. Life was one big fantasy, and the excitement of Hatchings far outweighed the sadness of not Impressing.
That all came crashing down when Thread returned, however. Dragons were called in from all the weyrholds to fight, and Leningree's brother disappeared from his life overnight. Fast as they tried to organize themselves, there was only so much you could do with so little preparation. A month later, Greelen returned, Dragonless and broken.
The loss stunned the entire family. When news came that some dragons would be Timing it, and that support staff was needed, Leningree's parents volunteered. They were too late to save Shevraeth - and their son's happiness - but they would help in his honor.
Again, it all happened very quickly. Time travel meant so much happened in just a few days - as far as Leningree and Greelen were concerned. When the dragons returned from Trelis, triumphant and abundant, their parents were not among them. In the Turns they'd spent away, they had perished. First their mother, from illness, and then their father, who fell off a runner while rushing to an injured patient rather than waiting for them to be transported to him.
Life was no longer a fantastical adventure, and Leningree fell into a deep depression for a while. When a searchdragon came looking for him, however, familiar with him after all the clutches where he'd failed to Impress, the man went willingly. Perhaps he could find some little kernel of brightness in his life.
Plaeth was more than a kernel. She was an entire field of corn. The bouncy, bubble amethyst Impressed this man who she could see needed her so much, making it her mission to make him smile at least once a day. It was a hard task, and for the first turn of their life together, she failed more often than she succeeded. As they grew closer, however, Plaeth wormed her way into L'gree's heart and found a way to melt a little of the ice there.
Once they'd graduated weyrlinghood, they trained as a searching pair. L'gree couldn't save his brother's dragon or his parents, but he would do what he could to make sure that the weyrs never again had to worry about having too few dragons to operate safely.
Plaeth
Name: Plaeth
Pronunciation: Play - th
Age: 4 turns
Rank: Amethyst
Size: 17 feet
Color Codes: #6D1C33
Appearance:
Plaeth is a dark reddish purple, with little whisps of lavender snaking around her legs, tail, and headknobs. Her nose has a few drops of near-white purple, as if someone dripped paint on her. She's fairly small, with the lithe agility stereotypical for her color. She rarely walks; she seems more to prance or bounce, as if life is too exciting to stroll with dignity.
Personality:
Plaeth is like a bubble of joy just waiting to pop in your face and spew sunshine and rainbows everywhere. If someone were to guess what age she'd be if she was a human child, estimates rarely go about four. She doesn't much seem to understand the concept of "work"; everything is a game, for her.
For a man like L'gree, this can be frustrating. For her bonded, she will work hard to act how he wants. Her attempts at being serious and stoic, however, are often more ridiculous and silly than if she were just to be her normal self. She enjoys games, and the best way to make her work hard is to turn a chore into a game with points. Whether she is naturally competitive or that's something that's bled over from Hers is unsure. Either way, she wants to get more points than anyone else, and that makes it easy to make her great at fighting Thread, Searching Candidates, and anything else you want, as long as you define the rules of the game well enough.
Plaeth loves people, and loves to rope them into games she has thought up, or that other people have thought up for her. You just Impressed a dragon? That's wonderful! Time for you to sit through an excited babble about all the ways you can earn points during weyrlinghood. See if you can beat her and L'gree! She bets you can't!
Playful as she is, Plaeth has a lot of trouble with serious content. She avoids confrontation like the plague, and sadness around her leads to a very awkward amethyst trying to find some way to cheer you up while likely making it worse.
Mind-Voice (If applicable):
Mine! Mine! Did you see how close that Thread got to my face before I flamed it? That's a three times multiplier, right? How many points do we have now, Mine? How many?
Imagine how a puppy would sound if it could speak. Got it? Now multiply it by five and you've got Plaeth.
