JOSKULL
joskull done by the lovely pulp~ <3[/center]
Name: Joskull
Pronunciation: YOSS-KULL
Age: 23
Season Born In: Summer
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Pansexual
Appearance:
Joskull looks the most like his father. He is the only blond of the three brothers, but his hair-type is much more like Bakari's. He keeps it relatively short, and his beard is scruffy at best. (K'jell teases him, tells him he looks like his uncle when the man was young.) Just about average height, Joskull is taller than both his parents at 5'10", though he's not built quite as thickly as either. Still, he's a glass-smith, and he's got some build on him. His hands and forearms are littered with burns, and his skin is a bit lighter than average for someone living on a tropical island.
Personality: Joskull is a bit of a magpie. If it's shiny, he wants it. If you tell him he can't have it, he wants it all the more. The only thing that thrills him more than a challenge is a challenge with a prize at the end. The man likes winning, but only when he gets to win something. Playing for the love of the game is a bit lost on him, as is the idea of defending your reign as champion. Joskull just wants things. Nice things. (He must have gotten that from his uncle.) He expects nice things; he was raised well enough to not just accept anything that was handed to him. If he wants something, the man will go out and get it.
Sometimes, his desire to collect things interferes with his work. Joskull would rather keep the pretty baubles he's made, rather than sell his work. (He's even been known to hiss on occasion, with strange folks touching his glasswork.) Only once he's made something prettier to replace a piece, is he ready to part with it. At least you can be sure he takes pride in his work, though. He might be a bit slow, but it's not worth doing if it's not worth doing right. When Joskull is working, he's got an excellent work ethic.
When he's not working, he's looking to fill his time. Middle child syndrome still has a firm hold on him, and even at the ripe old age of 23 (or so he thinks), Joskull is still under the impression he is pretty much invincible. Oh, sure, he knows he can get burned working his craft, he knows small pain and slight rejection, but nothing traumatic has happened in his life. As far as the blond knows, it can't happen to him. He's brave, bold and bright, but he's fool-hardy and blind to his own faults. He's blind to his own ambitions and their limitations.
Somewhere, deep down, Joskull has a burning urge to prove himself. He craves attention. Look how brave he is! Look at all these adventures he's gone on, these wonderful treasures he's brought back! (Okay, so not that many yet, but now you're starting to understand why he wants a dragon, aren't you?) Recognition means almost as much as family to him, and he was brought up in a very tight-knit structure. If he can't get someone to tell him he's doing a good job, Joskull will eventually give it up. (Again, the idea of doing something for the love it doesn't really occur to him.) Case in point: Strun. He's long since given up trying to train his pet. Shards, he'd hardly call the thing a pet. It's more like "that thing he's unfortunately attached to". If people didn't buy his work and fawn over his creativity, it's liable Joskull might give up his trade, too.
Family: B'kari – Father/"Mom" – Greenrider – JM Smith - 48
K'jell – Father/"Dad" – Bluerider - 50
Fakhri – Uncle – JM Farmer – 48
Kjors – Older Brother – JM Smith – 25
Bahari – Younger Brother – JM Starcrafter - 22
Location: Trelis
Rank: Dragon Candidate/JM Glass-smith
Craft: Glass-smith
Ranking: JM
Strengths: Joskull is good at taking his time to make sure he gets it right the first time. He doesn't go wasting time or materials willy nilly. He's strongest making decorative baubles and glass-wear. He favors goblets.
Weaknesses: Joskull is horrible at letting things go. It's hard to stay afloat when you refuse to part with your work. What's more, he considers things that aren't immediately profitable not worth his time.
History:
Kjors, Joskull and Bahari were all born to a happy, happy little family. Of course, as B'kari and K'jell are both men, there was a surrogate mother involved. The entire deal was arranged, the young woman was chosen for her looks similar to the men, and she was compensated for her time and considerable contribution. However, the boys do not know the woman, she has had no part in their life and, for all intents and purposes, K'jell and B'kari are their only parents. B'kari usually fills the role of "mom", despite being an absolute bear and a busy smith.
The boys wanted for absolutely nothing. Kjors was, undeniably, the favorite. He was the oldest child, he was the heir, and he was also the boss of the other two. Little Bahari was his uncle Fakhri's favorite, and the man often took him aside to teach him academic skills, or something about plants. Joskull amused himself, and as middle children are wont to do. Amusing himself often turned into getting up to no good. Even as a little boy, he was in search of adventure. Adventure and excitement and treasure. When he was put to bed at night, he'd beg for stories of days past.
Perhaps it was because he was the son of a smith, but Joskull always had an eye for shiny things. However, as he grew, he became more and more determined not to follow in Kjors' footsteps. No, he would blaze his own trail, which was what led the lad to apprenticing as a glass-smith at the age of sixteen. Bahari decided to apprentice at the same time, but he was going to the other hold, to apprentice to the starcraft. B'kari was distraught and, before their father gave them a ride to their respective holds, insisted they each take an egg from Jarn and Prim's clutch. It was necessary to write home, of course.
Joskull wanted a gold or bronze (something shiny, you see). Instead, he got a garnet. While he was originally satisfied with this, he has come to find that Strun is entirely more trouble than he is worth. The lizard bit him often and, on top of all the burns and cuts from learning his craft, Joskull's hands always seemed to be in bandages.
His apprenticeship was mild, and rather uneventful. He took the craft seriously, and enjoyed the work. The blond started to hoard his shiny baubles, collecting them. Joskull missed home, though his letters only made it there when Forge or Prim arrived with one for him. Strun was entirely useless on that front. The longer he stayed, the more homesick he got. No man or woman caught his eye as he grew, and it was only recently that the lad graduated the journeyman, having held his rank for less than a turn.
With a new set of skills, Joskull decided he would return home. He'd barely been home more than a few sevendays when he was approached by a greenrider; her dragon felt he'd be a good candidate. It seemed like a formality to him that his name be put in; after all, Joskull felt he belonged at the Weyr. That was where his family was and, if he wasn't mistaken, where the rest of his life ought to be, too. How else can one go adventuring, if they don't have the wings of a dragon to get them there?
STRUN
Name: Strun
Pronunciation: Strun
Age: 7 turns
Type: Firelizard
Rank: Garnet
Size: 33 inches
Color Codes: B22222 A02422
Appearance/Personality:
Strun is a striking lizard. He's large, first and foremost, and he takes after his sire, Jarn. He is filled out well, clearly a tank of a firelizard. The flit is a bright red color – it's hard to mistake him for anything but garnet, and he has the large, blocky coloration like Jarn. The blocks are a deeper shade of red. He looks like he is wearing little gloves, and his wings are dark as well.
Strun, again, like his sire, is an absolute terror. The difference is, K'jell actually managed to train his pet a little bit. Once Joskull realized what a hellion his pet was, he gave up completely, giving the garnet free rein. He's a nasty little shit, on a constant vendetta to prove how big and wonderful he is. In Strun's mind, he's practically a dragon. Shards! He is a dragon in his mind. Big, brave, strong. Who dare mess with him? He takes on almost any other male he sees, imagining threats and challenges where there are none. He even takes on his sire (and often gets his hide handed back to him). Strun doesn't seem to learn from his mistakes; often, failure only makes him angry. When he gets in those moods, Joskull does his best to avoid his pet all together.
Also, he is absolutely rubbish at carrying letters. He often eats them, or shreds the paper to make himself a nice little nest. Jerk.
