Ko'o
Name:
Pronunciation: Coh - oh
Age: 17
Season Born In: Early fall
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance:
Koroniket is large. Just over six feet tall, with a build reminiscent of a herdbeast, he can be a bit intimidating. He's quite strong, most of his bulk coming from muscle, but he's got a layer of fat which he could never get rid of and has since accepted. His features are unremarkable - muddy brown eyes, straight nose, bottom lip somewhat fuller than top lip - and his hair is black and often somewhat messy. He has a sprinkling of freckles across his face, particularly thick on his nose, which gives him a somewhat innocent look. This lessens the intimidation factor from his bulk and strength.
Personality:
You can all just stop making babies now, because perfection has been achieved. Koroniket is here and it's never going to get better than him, so you can just give up. At least, that's what he thinks. And to Koroniket, his opinion is the only one that matters. Why should anyone else have a say when he already knows what you are thinking and want? Koroniket has the habit of cutting people off or speaking over them, speaking for them. He assumes he knows what you are going to say and will just respond as if you've said it. "Now I know, I know. You are gonna be sad if you don't get to see your little boyfriend. But I'll take care of it." Do you have a boyfriend? He doesn't care. Do you want to see said boyfriend, even if he exists? Again - totally irrelevant. All that matters is that Koroniket has made up his mind that there's something that you (whether because you lack his bravery or his dazzling intellect) can't do for yourself, so he's going to sweep to your rescue and fix your life, whether you want it fixed or not.
Although Koroniket tends to patronize and talk over everyone, this behaviour is especially pronounced with women. Or, as he tends to refer to them, "little ladies" (always said with just the right level of condescension so you feel pissed off but can't quite justify yelling at him). Women are weak, stupid, and in need of the guiding hand of a strong man. Fortunately for the women (human, dragon, and otherwise) of this weyr, Koroniket is here to guide them. If you thought he was annoying talking to a man, just wait until you hear him in a conversation with a woman. He will be so full of interruptions and patronizing comments that it'll be a miracle if he goes five minutes without getting smacked or having his conversation partner simply walk away in a huff. Koroniket's disdain (though it really is just his misguided attempts to be helpful to a gender clearly in need of his assistance) for women extends to anything feminine.
More than a little anti-homosexuality, he thinks lesbians are making some sad attempt at not needing men, gay men are betraying their gender with their weak displays of submission, and bisexual people...? Well, they're just really, really confused, the poor souls. And if you suggest that his hatred of homosexuality could be a result of him questioning his own sexuality...well. You just earned yourself a lifetime enemy, my friend. Koroniket is straight and quite sure of that, but he has a strong fear of being turned gay. He doesn't know exactly how this would happen, only that it seems very likely and is terrifying. As such, he is always on guard for "gay thoughts" or "gay actions" and will panic a bit if he notices himself appreciating the way another man looks or speaks.
His friends seem to be the only people who are sometimes allowed to give their opinions without being cut off and spoken over. Oh sure, he still thinks he's smarter and better than them, and should be given control in all the big decisions, but he wouldn't have befriended them if they weren't far better than the average person - they can be trusted to form their own opinions and self-direct their actions. Maybe. A little. But don't get carried away.
Authority figures, too, are allowed to speak. If someone is doing something he outright disagrees with, he will speak up regardless of rank, but even then he'll do so respectfully. When he isn't in direct opposition to someone's policies, he will take directions from someone who outranks him and give them his complete attention and respect.
Animals and children - small children, think infants - earn a place in his heart, as well. Since they can't understand him when he tries to guide them for their own good, he sees no reason to try. With the pressure to run everyone's world for them lifted, Koroniket very much enjoys their company and can develop quite the rapport with wordless creatures.
Koroniket is a very physical person. He likes wrestling, sex...and cuddling. And if you tell him that his immense fondness for laying with his head in someone's lap as they run their fingers through his hair is weak or feminine (the two things he claims to despise), he'll show you just how manly he can be. With his fists.
Family: Ariket - Cook
Father is an unknown rider
Location: Trelis
Rank: Dragon
History:
Koroniket's life began, like so many others, with a flight. His mother, Ariket, was a cook in Trelis' kitchen and had just finished her work for the day when a wild-eyed rider came tearing out of a room. His eyes locked on her as she walked back towards her room, and suddenly she found herself swept away by a flightlust-driven rider. The encounter wasn't entirely consensual, but nor was it anything she was surprised by; this was a weyr, after all. When she discovered that she was pregnant, she sought out the man who had impregnated her, thinking he may want to support her and the child. He had a weyrmate, however, and no interest in having her or her unborn babe in his life. Ariket accepted this - again, it was a weyr - and left him in peace; her child could run with the other weyrbrats once it was old enough and she preferred that to trying to force someone into fatherhood.
When Koroniket was born, her mother combined her name with that of her grandfather, ensuring that her son would have no link to his father and couldn't go experience rejection all over again to his face. The boy grew big, strong, and somewhat chubby on his mother's cooking, aware from birth that he was loved and aware from adolescence that he thought his mother weak for accepting this fate instead of demanding support for her and her child.
Koroniket intended to follow his unknown father's footsteps, entering candidacy as soon as he could. In the mean time, he learned cooking from his mother, wishing to gain a useful skill and ease his way into a craft without all the nonsense of leaving home for a crafthall and doing an apprenticeship.
While he was reportedly 100% sure he would find himself with a noble bronze, he instead found himself bonded to a bratty blue named Vorith. He's still coming to terms with it.
Vorith
Name: Vorith
Pronunciation: As it looks
Age: Hatchling
Rank: Blue
Size: 26 feet
Color Codes: 1e3278, 8690b7, 3a93bd, 536e9d, 35318c
Appearance:
Despite Vorith's insistence that he is a bronze, he is very clearly a blue. A damn pretty blue, at that. His body is a pale, almost faded blue which darkens as you radiate outwards along his tail, neck, and wings. His wings have a patchwork appearance, irregular shapes of purple-y blue giving color to the pale hide. On his side is a burst of brighter blue, like someone dropped cyan ink into water. His head has a pattern of lighter blue weaving around it like an intricate head garment. Vorith is quite an average size for blues, much to his disappointment. If he was at least an abnormally large blue, he would gain some comfort from his slightly increased resemblance to bronzes. Alas, he is just your regular every day blue.
Personality:
If you were to summarize Vorith in a single word, it would be "brat". Or perhaps "child." "Spoiledbratchild"? Yes, that will do. Vorith wants things to go his way and will be quick to throw a tantrum if it doesn't. He has quite the temper and will frequently throw all propreity to the wind in order to scream, roar, and whine until things change. He whines about things not being fair, not getting enough attention, someone else getting to do something he can't - or even just before he gets the chance to... Name a "hardship" and I can nearly guarantee you he's got a hissy fit all bottled up just waiting to be unleashed in response to it.
Vorith dislikes his color and the rank it denies him. He is a king and nothing you say can convince him otherwise. His mother just played favorites when she was handing out genes, and she decided to deny him what is his. Vorith tries to turn this around - he's special, shardit! - but it's all too obvious that he is sensitive and upset about being blue.
In a child, this might be irksome but harmless. In Vorith, it is dangerous. He expresses his displeasure with his claws and teeth, and that can be quite deadly if you're smaller than him or he gets lucky in his strikes. Fight back, though, and present him with an actual confrontation and he'll hide. Behind his rider, his wingmates - anyone stronger or larger than him.
