N'TAL
Name:
N'tal
(formerly Norental)
Pronunciation:
NUH-TALL
Age:
Thirty-Eight
Season Born In:
Winter
Gender:
Male
Sexuality:
Heterosexual
Appearance:
If anything, N'tal could be called handsome. With dark blond hair and bright blue eyes, the young man presents a rather attractive face to the world. Mostly, his good looks come from his mother, who has the same coloration and features. N'tal's father is darker in both mood and complexion, with startlingly black hair and eyes as equally dark. N'tal, however, inherited his mother's complexion, lending him fair skin (that happens to burn both quickly and easily in the sun), curled blond hair, and shining blue eyes.
The rider's skin, as stated, is fair rather than dark, though is also a far cry away from what would be considered "pale." With N'tal's light hair and eyes, it might be rather difficult to see him as "pale" in any light. Regardless, his skin has a light bronze overtone, lending the rider a bit of a tanned, weathered look. This "weathered" look is aided by the fact that his hair is nearly always a mess. Curled at the best of times, his hair tends to become a rat's nest at N'tal's worst moments. Appearance, it seems, doesn't mean very much to him.
N'tal's face is rather welcoming, with a strong, stubborn jaw and an expression that just seems to be friendly. His blue eyes aren't cold or harsh, but rather seem to shine with the simple joy of being alive. While the rider does sport a rather long nose, his cheekbones are not extremely prominent, which gives his face the sort of wide openness that makes him so approachable, despite his tousled hair and the scruffy beard that covers most of his jawline.
The bronze rider, like his dragon, is on the slender side. Some riders are extremely muscular from their duties, but N'tal remains toned rather than bulky. He has muscle (he has to-- he's a dragon rider!) but he isn't overly muscular. Standing at a moderate height of five feet and ten inches, N'tal isn't the tallest of men, nor is he the shortest. His hands are calloused from his time spent in the Sea Craft as well as his turns as a 'rider, and miscellaneous scars dot his body from various injuries sustained in the former and latter professions.
Personality:
As is obvious by his scruffy beard and tousled hair, N'tal doesn't care much about his outward physical appearance aside from keeping in shape in order to perform his duties swiftly and accurately. When it comes to things like his hair and clothes, however… well, none of that really matters to him. Granted, he will normally wear nice clothes (after all, what 'rider would wear rags?), but he generally has a sort of messiness about him. N'tal could care less.
The rider cares much more about his reputation than his physical appearance. If he has a good reputation, it doesn't matter how he looks. N'tal does his best to obtain and maintain a positive reputation. This way, when duty calls, he can be on the front lines, ready to defend his home and his Weyr, as well as the people that dwell there. Duty matters much more than appearance to this man.
However, almost the exact opposite can be said about how he feels about his dragon. N'tal makes sure his bronze looks pristine and meticulous, almost like a statue, and routinely bathes and oils the dragon. However, Sorvestrymath's reputation doesn't seem to matter to the man. He knows his dragon is a bit goofy, and has come to terms with that. In his mind, if Sorvestrymath keeps up the appearance and N'tal keeps up the reputation, everything will equal out.
He does, however, seem to be at odds with his dragon most of the time. N'tal is the kind of man that wants to rush into things, while his dragon is much more patient and level-headed. This difference has led to multiple quarrels between the pair, but they always work things out in the end.
N'tal, being the rider of a bronze dragon, takes his duty very seriously. He dreams big, and hopes to one day be Weyrleader, and considers duty to be the very highest honor that was ever bestowed upon him. He takes searching out potential candidates as seriously as he can, though his nature is more playful than serious. Despite his base nature, however, he tries his best to be dutiful and serious in the times when he needs to be.
The rest of the time, he can be a bit "out of the box." He has the habit of staring off into space and daydreaming for hours on end, which some find a bit uncanny. N'tal, however, just likes to think about everything and anything. He is playful, always willing to simply play silly games and pranks with or on his more serious-minded dragon. He'll never say no to dice or cards. Oddly enough, he dislikes fire lizards, insisting that they detract from duty and are too vivacious to be kept around as pets.
Despite this, N'tal is almost overly organized. He has charts and files and records stacked in his quarters on just about anything, and most of them are written by or copied out by N'tal himself. He's not hide-bound, so to speak, but he does enjoy reading and learning and, above all, being prepared. Because of this preparedness, N'tal is always ready for action. He has ridiculously quick reaction time, and is nearly always the first to show up for any sort of action that may be going on.

Trelis
Rank:
Wingleader

History:
When Tala Impressed to her green dragon at the age of sixteen turns, the Hold-bred girl immediately decided that she was absolutely not going to give up her initial Hold learnings and morals. Being Hold-bred, and not Weyr-bred, Tala was uncomfortable, to say the least, with the idea of sleeping with every man that flew her dragon. She was adamant that she would marry for love, and would not just keep a Weyrmate that may or may not change depending on Flights. True to her word, she fell in love with a visiting Masterfisher from the Sea Hold. Lucky for Tala, Masterfisher Noren returned her affections and within two turns they were married. Noren moved to High Reaches Weyr to be with hi new wife, but did not give up his craft. Another Master took over his duties at the Sea Hold, naturally, but Noren retained his status and continued to practice his craft in the waters near High Reaches Hold.
Soon enough, Tala discovered that she was pregnant. With no threat of Thread present, she stopped going between and settled down to give birth to her first child. The child, a boy, was born in the first month of winter, and as was tradition, was named Norental, a combination of both his mother and father's names. There was no complication with the birth, and much could be said of the infant. Norental was a quiet baby, rarely crying and always seeming to be happy. As toddler, the boy showed great interest in his mother's dragon, and constantly toddled after Tala and the green, doing as much as his tiny body could to help wash and oil the dragon When Norental was five turns old, his brother Talaren was born. The brothers, however, could not have been more different in personality.
Where Norental was kind, Talaren was cruel. Where Norental loved dragons, Talaren was uninterested. Norental was quiet and helpful, but Talaren was loud, boisterous, and competitive. Talaren broke bones from climbing trees, got lost in the tunnels under the Weyr, and often got into fights. As much as Norental tried to guide his brother to a more quiet, relaxed life-style, he always failed. Despite this constant failure (or perhaps in spite of it), Norental tried his very best up until the day he was sent to the Seahold by his father t become an Apprentice Fisher. He was twelve turns old, his brother seven.
Norental wasn't exactly happy about being send off, however. He loved his family (even his wayward brother), and disliked being away from them. However, he soon grew rather fond of the Fishercraft. He excelled at anything to do with fishing itself, such as mending nets and lines, gutting the fish, and catching the fish, but did poorly at anything having to do with boats. Despite this, he was fairly happy with his life at the Seahold. After two turns of being an apprentice, Noren and Tala gave birth to another son, named Tano, and Norental had another brother-- a brother he rarely saw, which irritated him to no end, especially since Talaren had bonded to a wher, and was still living in High Reaches Weyr with their family. However, Norental took pride in his craft-- his father's craft --and refused to quit or leave.
When Norental was sixteen turns old, things changed. At sixteen, the same age his mother had been when she was Searched, a visiting rider from Fort Weyr Searched him out as a Candidate. Within a sevenday, he was standing before Fort Weyr's Golden Queen's clutch. He was nervous beyond belief, but word had been sent to his family, and they were in the crowd. Norental meant to do them proud by Impressing... and he did. The fourth egg to crack spilled a tiny bronze onto the sands, though Norental did not notice, as he was focused on a blue, wiling the azure hatchling to come to him. It wasn't until the bronze bumped against him and stared up with rainbow-swirled eyes, announcing his name, that Norental even noticed the bronze.
Weyrlinghood was an interesting time for both of them. It was found that Norental, now N'tal, had an aptitude to lead, and that Sorvestrymath, his bronze, would never reach the full growth of a mature bronze dragon. The pair progressed well and quickly... until they were given a bit of freedom. N'tal made the poor choice of deciding that, since his dragon could now between, they would visit his home Weyr, High Reaches, and see his family. Unfortunately, they had not progressed that far in their lessons, and rather than appearing above the ocean, the pair appeared far closer to the actual Weyr than they had intended, and actually crashed into it. The impact resulted in a broken wing for Sorvestrymath, a cracked collar-bone for N'tal, and one heck of a lot of punishment work for the both of them.
That incident, however, seemed to solidify a sense of duty, respect for authority and respect for self into both dragon and rider. After that, the rest of their Weyrling days passed without incident. Graduating Weyrlinghood should have been a happy, joyous occasion for the two, but the day was marred by Tala's untimely death due to a heart attack. Heartbroken, N'tal wanted to get as far away from anything that reminded him of his mother as possible, so he immediately transferred to Trelis Weyr. He kept up infrequent letters to his father and brothers, however, and still does.
Now, he keeps near-perfect records of every thread-fall, and flies in his wing with dignity, passion, and honor. N'tal aspires to one day be promoted to Wingleader, and to perhaps even become Weyrleader some day.
SORVESTRYMATH
Name:
Sorvestrymath
Pronunciation:
SOR-VES-TREH-MATH
Age:
Fifteen Turns
Rank:
Bronze
Size:
Thirty-Eight Feet
Color Codes:
CD7F32
Appearance:
Sorvestrymath is small for a bronze. In this case, small equates to tiny. Undersized. A runt. Typically, a "small" bronze dragon will have a length of forty-two feet, with a wingspan of approximately seventy feet. A "larger" sized bronze averages forty-eight feet in length and eighty feet of wingspan. Sorvestrymath, unfortunately, borders on the size of a smaller brown dragon, coming in at just thirty-eight feet long from nose to tail, with his wings stretching the length of around sixty feet.
To make matters worse, the bronze is, quite simply, dainty. He's not fragile or easily broken, but he has a rather elegant, graceful tone to his body. Typically, a bronze is a large, bulky dragon, but Sorvestrymath is far from the "average bronze." Rather than being built along the muscular, beefy side, Sorvestrymath is lither than most dragons of his color, with a willowy frame built on longer, but thinner bones.
As far as coloring goes, Sorvestrymath is a rippled, wavy shade of bronze that seems to weave and dip in and out between lighter and darker hues. Overall, his body is a deeper shade than his wing membranes, though the coloration of the hide over the bones of his wings is dark, even becoming more brown-black than bronze, which is also the color of Sorvestrymath's markings. On his wings, legs, neck, and tail, he has "v" shaped waves running in both directions in the same brownish-black. His muzzle is banded by three squares of the color, as are his legs.
Personality:
To say the absolute very least, Sorvestrymath is clumsy, despite his graceful appearance. He often trips over his own claws, so to speak, and knocks things over with a frequency that would almost be considered pathetic. While he may look dainty and graceful, Sorvestrymath is in no way graceful. He is the epitome of clumsy. Needless to say, he's rather accident prone.
He does, however, try his best with everything he does. He wants to prove himself, and thus tries harder than most. Unfortunately, Sorvestrymath also seems to fail despite his best efforts. He doesn't let that dampen his spirit, however! He's always trying things over and over again, trying to improve.
The bronze is a friendly dragon. He doesn't gossip, but does chat with other dragons, keeping a wary distance lest they make fun of his size. Sorvestrymath is extremely sensitive about the topic of his size, as would be expected, and thus does keep a bit of distance between himself and other dragons. He's friendly, but doesn't get too close with anyone.
He's oddly serious about anything and everything, however, despite his foibles. He takes his job seriously, and flights seriously, and eating seriously, and sleeping seriously. He is not a funny dragon, but a serious one. Sometimes, however, his seriousness can be taken as humorous, since everything is serious business to the bronze.
Like most bronze dragons, Sorvestrymath is proud. He's not arrogant, but he's not modest, either. The dragon just takes quiet pride in his (and his rider's) accomplishments. He won't brag, nor will he deny the accomplishments, but will simply accept any comments directed at him.
Strangely enough, Sorvestrymath loves fire lizards almost as much as his rider hates them. He tends to take a fatherly role with the small flitters, and also with any children of the Weyr. He frequently helps out the Candidates and loves spending time with children.
In short, Sorvestrymath is a serious-minded, friendly dragon that is unfortunately clumsy in his movements and is accident prone.

Oops! Sorry!
The bronze has a deep, serious voice that can sound somewhat fatherly at times.[/center]
