J'lan of Bronze Granzth
Name: J'lan
Pronunciation: J-lan
Age: 30
Season Born In: Spring
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance:
J'lan has a stocky, muscular build, despite his height of 6'3". He mostly wears clothes that hang loosely on his body, in order to increase his freedom of movement-he hates tight clothes that restrict him in any way or form. His hair is black, and his eyes are a deep, dark blue that pulls people in.
He has a set of scars on his chest from the day he bonded with his dragon, Granzth, that run from the right shoulder to the left side of his abdomen. J'lan also carries a one-edged sword with him, strapped across his back with the hilt sticking out over his left shoulder.
Personality:
Before he became a Rider, J'lan was a joker, one of those that you always went to if you wanted a laugh. He's still a joker now-but he will always put his duties first, no matter what.
Because of this, he is the one to go to if you have a problem, even if it's a Candidate treating one of the weyrbrats badly. As a former weyrbrat himself, he will immediately stop the Candidate, inform the correct people, and then set about cheering up the child that had been upset.
When going about his duties, J'lan doesn't joke around, becoming quiet and calculating as he thinks things through thoroughly before acting on his decision.
His relationship with his son, Galen, is a simple one-he loves his son, and would never treat him as his parents did him. He keeps Galen with him as much as possible, seeing to his care himself, as Galen's mother, one of the cooks from the kitchens, had died giving birth to the boy.
Family: J'lan has only his son, Galen, left to him. All other relatives have either died or left the island.
Location: Trelis
Rank: Wingleader
Wing/Pack: Middle Wing
History:
J'lan was born in the Trelis Weyr to two Riders of low rank who took no interest in him whatsoever. His mother didn't even bother to care for him until he was old enough to walk-simply handing him over at birth and walking away.
As a result, J'lan grew up with only a few companions among the other weyrbrats and the adults that cared for them. He was the joker, the one most likely to rig a bucketful of water to land on someone's head, and the one who would deliberately take the blame for the other weyrbrats' pranks.
He stayed this way until he reached the age to become a Candidate, and was chosen on his first attempt by the Bronze dragon Granzth, who marked him as his chosen Rider with a mauling that would have been severe if he hadn't been expecting it.
J'lan had stepped forward into the swipe, twisted to the side to help deflect the worst of it, and then tapped Granzth on the nose, surprising the dragon enough to stop him in his tracks.
Since his bonding, J'lan has matured immensely, becoming a man of honor and integrity that is well respected around the weyr. He has a son, Galen, that he loves deeply, and he often takes the five year old boy with him on flights with Granzth.
Galen's mother died giving birth to him, and because of this, both J'lan and Granzth have become protective of him, which annoys the little boy at times, but whenever he has had a problem with the other children at the Weyr it has always been his father that he's run to. J'lan is always willing to spend time with his son, and has even taken him to some of the Weyr meetings, despite protests from the others.
Now thirty, J'lan is happy with his life, looking upon things with a more laid back view than before. It was he and one of his Wingriders that discovered the Candidate Jisene and brought her to the Weyr, thinking that she would make an appropriate addition to their forces.

Name: Granzth
Pronunciation: GRAN-zeth
Age: 17 years old
Rank: Bronze
Size: 40 feet long
Color Codes:
Appearance:
Granzth is big and bulky, but not as much as most bronzes are. His muscles are there, but they're not as pronounced, making for a slightly slinkier build. This does not, however, mean he's not as strong as other bronzes. Quite the opposite, in fact-it just means that he doesn't flash them around as much.
His scales are a deep, pure bronze, with no other hints of different color, apart from his wings and belly which are just a lighter color than the rest of his body.
Personality:
Granzth can be very regal when he wants to be, but with it, he is calm and collected, preferring not to try and tell the other dragons what to do unless he has no other choice. In these situations, he will immediately take charge, ensuring to the best of his abilities that all the dragons in his care come out of the situation unharmed.
With J'lan, he is often the voice of reason-especially when it comes to J'lan's son, Galen. It is often Granzth who sends the boy to bed, especially when J'lan has paperwork to do that he cannot avoid, and Granzth who will, later the same night, do the same thing to J'lan. He has even been known to pull the chair out from beneath J'lan on occasion, resulting in J'lan having quite a few bruised jaws over the years that the two have been together.
When they met Jisene, it was Granzth that Searched her, and, pleased with what he had found, had informed J'lan, who had been surprised by his dragon's actions, as it was the first time that Granzth had taken part in a Search of his own accord.
As a result, Granzth has become good friends with the young Jisene, as the two are very close in age and share the season of their birth. He often seeks out the young girl to check on how she is doing, as he feels responsible for pulling her into the life of a Dragon Rider.
Mind-Voice (If applicable):
J'lan, let the boy go. He needs to sleep, as do you. Or do you want me to pull that chair out from under you again...?
