Azahl hoped he didn't keep her waiting for too long today. She wanted to go on her break and get something to eat. But she had to wait for Avery. It had been a plenty trying day already. What with the journeyman bossing her around and her patients - especially the children. she was not a plan of children. She found them hard to get along with and difficult to understand most of the time. And they just didn't like her. It bothered her.
She ignored Meerly even as she chittered at her, sitting on her shoulder. She wished that she would bugger off or be useful. The creature had been trained to help her, but she never really did what she was supposed to. Or what she was told. She never got any satisfaction out of anything unless she was making someone miserable.
Azahl prepared the numbweed and everything she would need to treat Avery when he arrived. She was quiet, waiting. She ignored the others around her as she prepared for the work to come. Avery was quite the character. sometimes he was a bit annoying... but he did cheer her up most of the time when he was making his comments and just being silly in general. he had quite the sense of humor and was quite the character in general. Though that didn't mean she trusted him... tough she had a hard time not liking him. After all... he made it difficult. Though... she couldn't trust him. There was no one with trusting after all. Though, she would have to admit that she would have to admit that there were certain people who had attracted her attention to a point. including on of her fellow Candidates... and of course Avery. Not that it was always a good thing sicne she always tried to manipulate others all the time.... She doubted anyone actually liked her either. Why shoudl they.
She really wasn't a kind person... unless she was trying ot get something out of it or out of you.
She was thinking rather deeply about many things - her mind always going back ot the very reason she didn't trust people. The very beginning, the one that sat at the very ehart - that was the very first... her mother... She was distant and cold in appearance as she went about her tasks rather methodically.

"OH FAAAAAAAAAIR MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIDEN~"
There was no doubt who was coming down that hallway, whistling a jaunty tune and singing out at the top of his lungs, as loudly as he possibly could. Avery had noticed that Azahl wasn't as grumpy sometimes when he came to see her, and as such, he was constantly cheerful when he came to see her... Well! he was cheerful anyway so that didn't really matter, it was all a matter of perspective! Even if his face was screaming in pain at that very moment, he made the scars stretch to that bright grin as he swung himself into the room and gave the woman a loud, smooching kiss on the cheek complete with sound effects.
"So!"
He grinned, throwing himself onto one of the cots in the infirmary, leaning back on the pillow and throwing his arms wide. "RAVISH ME." He grinned then, a laugh spoiling what he thought was a rather sultry, gorgeous look that was spoiled by the leather eye patch before he sat up with a slight wince as it pulled at the still extremely painful scars. "But I forget, you don't want to ravish me, do you, Azahl? So what witchly concotions are you throwing on me this time?"
It was so easy just to relax when with people that didn't know him well, and Azahl was probably at least one of the reasons that he was still alive after all. He shuddered to think what would have happened to him if she hadn't been around when he'd needed her to be. After all losing the eye was painful, but he could have lost so much more than that if it had really come down to it. Without the expert care of the healers... Shards he'd been stupid but one day that wher... he was going to find him and give him a good swift kick up the tail.
"Unless you've already had... you know... A handful when you were checking out that scar on my thigh." This was accompanied by a quick wiggle of his hips, just in case she missed his meaning. Which of course it was kind of impossible to, Avery was as subtle as a brick, and many people believed just was intelligent.
Faranth he was terrible sometimes.
But he wasn't stupid. He'd noticed that Azahl had few friends and thus, in the innocence of mind that had him thinking everyone got lonely, he'd decided to be her friend. It might make her a little less bitter, to know someone else was watching out for her.
And watching her ass.

Azahl felt eyes turn towards her and she stiffened a little as she felt them, but she couldn't help the slight smile at the corner of her lips are the slight tug at something deep inside of her (a heart perhaps? surely she didn't have one or those.) She continued her work as if she didn't here him for a moment and then he was there, pressing a loud kiss to her cheek and she rolled her eyes, but her smile... it was a helpless smile. "Affectionate git, hmmm...?" she said, raising an eyebrow, though she tried to hide her amusement.
She swallowed a little and blushed. He made a tempting picture there, but her blush and her absolute look of shock as she looked around hastily made it obvious she was uncomfortable. "Avery..." she tried to keep the whine out of her voice, "you know I need to be professional..." He was so relaxed it was hard to fathom. She didn't understand how he could seem to relax so completely, so fully around her. "It's just a little numbweed and salve today. It should help with the pain and help quicken the healing." He still had a handsome face... even with his scars, she supposed. He was a bit crazy, though...
She blushed even deeper at his next comment and movement. "Avery!" she squeaked, trying to turn away to prepare her things. He always made her flustered to say the least.... And that took a lot of effort most of the time. It took more to make her laugh, though. She turned back towards him and very gently pulled the patch from his eye, gently touching his skin. "You're healing well..." she said quietly. She felt a pang somewhere deep inside and pulled her hand away, turning back to the mixture of salve and numbweed.

Oh were those eyes on him? Yes, yes there were. Did he care? No, no not at all. Not one bit. That wasn't Avery. Being loud and affectionate? That was. "A git?!" He exclaimed hurtfully, pressing both of his hands over his heart and dramatically swooning over the pillows, his voice getting louder and louder with each dramatic sigh that left his lips. "How could you call me such things? Oh the injury. The injustice. The wound this maiden has left on me!" Oh he was playing it up, every second louder, more dramatic before he finally trailed off as he scooted himself against the pillows on the cot to make himself more comfortable. He would have winked. Once upon a time he would have winked, but that had been when he'd had two eyes, now the action would just be a waste of time and Avery wasn't all that keen on that, thank you very much.
"No you don't! BEsides, no one would blame you if you jumped on me and started--" Well the look from one of the other journeyman suggested maybe he would mind if she did just that, but Avery didn't miss a beat. He blew a kiss. Waited for him to look away and settled that charming grin on his features once again. This was fun! She was flustered and uncomfortable and off ehr guard, which meant she was less likely to get grumpy and be bitchy and--
"Whoa! Watch the eye socket!" He tried to make it sound joking, he really did, as he fingers brushed against the scarring, but there was a strained note. A pained note that made him pull back and lean further back against the bed. "Healing? Well at least I won't be ugly forever. Cause right now it's just one big ugly hole in my head."

“Yes a git…. But I’ll take it back if you behave.” She said to him, not looking at him as she spread the salve on a soft rag. It would have to do. She knew this was going to hurt at first, but it would numb it and would help diminish the scars. “Shhhhh….” She said to him somewhat irritably. “You need to be quieter, Avery!” she exclaimed, turning back to him… She turned red. “Yes, I think they would.” She frowned. “Hey… don’t flirt with him.” She made herself look absolutely just stung and hurt even as she touched his face. She flinched at his words.
She winced. “Avery…. Calm down. I have to touch it if I’m going to apply the salve!” She looked a little expaserated…. But then there was a glint in her eyes. “Now shush…. Maybe this will make you feel better.” She knelt on the bed beside him, leaning forward and gently placing a kiss to his lips. “Is that any better?” she asked him, still feeling the eyes on them. Some of htem on her now. But she ignored them. She actually enjoyed that. And, as loathe as she was to admit it… she actually enjoyed Avery. Perhaps he was not the most handsome anymore… but he had been. And he still was in his own way. She looked at him with a piercing expression, swallowing slightly, the salve forgotten. She hated that he had been hurt so badly. His beautiful eye had been taken and left such… an ugly hole in his head. One she could never hope to heal. “You aren’t ugly now,” she told him softly and pressed her lips against his again.
She wondered what was going on in his head. She knew what was going on in hers... and it was a rather obnoxious thing. She wanted him to kiss her. she wanted to keep him around. She didn't want him to go out and get hurt. Not ever again. But of course, he was going to. Of course he was going out to have adventures. That was who Avery was as she had learned.
And these wants annoyed her and made no sense to her. She coudln't trust him anymore than anyone else. After all.... you could never trust a human. Ever.
