Jisene smiled at her cheerfully. "I could show you, if you'd like. It wouldn't take me long to carve a bow for you, and arrows are pretty easy to make, too."
She hummed as she thought over the question of the flitters. "I think they probably are, yes. They are related after all. The fire lizards are essentially just smaller versions of the dragons, and they're so beautiful..." Her eyes glazed over, and she smiled happily. "Mother had a green one when I was little. She used to send it with Father and I when we went hunting together."

"Oh! Really?" Laila blinked. She had never really considered learning that kind of thing for herself, but now that she thought about it, it actually sounded like fun. Now that she had someone who had offered to teach her, maybe it wouldn't be too hard. She smiled. "Yeah, I think I'd like that. Thank you."
She was a little amused at Jisene's reaction when fire lizards were brought up. Clearly, she wasn't the only one who was interested in the miniature dragons. "There were no pet flits around where I lived, or I probably would have bugged their owners incessantly. Does she still have it?"

Jisene shook her head. "It betweened a few Turns ago. We were all upset, because it had been a part of the family. She got it when I was a baby, in memory of-" she stopped herself, from revealing about her stillborn twin brother. Ever since she'd first learnt about him, she had understood why her life had felt a little empty.
Forcing a smile, she washed her glass and put it away. "Anyway, how about I give you your first archery lesson tomorrow, once our lessons and chores are done-I usually end up with the afternoon all to myself, and the light will be strongest, then, too. Makes it easier to hit the target when the sun's behind you."

Laila was not normally an awkward or oblivious person, in fact, she was usually quite good with other people. Since she was neither blind nor death, she could tell that the reason Jisene had suddenly stopped talking was because it had made her think of something unpleasant. She diplomatically decided not to say anything more about it, and instead turned away to wash her own glass, only turning back to comment on the archery lessons.
She nodded emphatically. "Yes, that will be fine. I usually get done with my own chores by then, as well." At least she could be sure she would learn something useful while she was at Trelis, though she still hoped she would impress when Majorith's eggs hatched. She was already learning new things, though; she wouldn't have thought to consider the position of the sun when practicing. She grinned at the other candidate. "Sounds like fun."

Jisene nodded, her smile turning genuine. "It is! There's nothing like the satisfaction of hitting your target as perfectly as you possibly can. Especially when you can then use that skill to feed yourself and others."
She stretched lazily, fingers locked together as she pushed her hands out in front of her. "There was an older woman who lives on her own not far from my father's Hold. I used to take anything that I caught to her, and I know that she always appreciated the meal."
